Re: Olympics
But have they seriously thought whether there will be any customers ?maryann wrote:yes our office is opening too. They want 2 staff plus the manager or assistant manager for 3 hours every Sunday ( double time pay)while the opympics are on.They asked for volenteers (I dont do Sundays either).
The more 'special' stamps they bring out, now more than a hundred a year, the less interest there is in them.

Re: Olympics
oh yes !!! they,ve thought about it. 3 hours work,6 hours pay for doing nothing.
But,we do sell quite a lot of special stamps and p packs, but will they come to town on a Sunday to buy them?

'Quite a lot' but not queues like this http://www.britishpathe.com/video/decim ... tamp+queue" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and they were just definitive stamps.maryann wrote:oh yes !!! they,ve thought about it. 3 hours work,6 hours pay for doing nothing.

Re: Olympics
To be fair, whether you would use the service or not,it is damn clever that they could do it so quick.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Re: Olympics
I resent the statement that we shall be 'doing nothing'. It's going to be hard going to peel the spuds, prepare the veg, stuff the chicken, cook it, and eat it, in the three hours allocated...maryann wrote:oh yes !!! they,ve thought about it. 3 hours work,6 hours pay for doing nothing.

Re: Olympics
But national newspapers were publishing and distributing overnight at the time of Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubillee so it's hardly 'damn clever' of Royal Mail to do a similar with stamps thing now.POSTMAN wrote:To be fair, whether you would use the service or not,it is damn clever that they could do it so quick.

Re: Olympics
anyone had a thought about the economics of opening offices with staff on double time (plus the other operating costs - h,l,p , employers ernic etc) in the hope of selling some extar stamps and hopefully some other transactions at coppers return on each transaction ?

Re: Olympics
£22 an hour. That is what the Crown staff are getting paid. Minimum of 3 staff per office...

Re: Olympics
Based on what we are paid in a sub Post Office, we would need to sell about 4000 stamps (assuming 1st class) to make £200! I have looked at the branches selling these stamps and note there are quite a number of subs included in the next day list which presumably includes Sundays based on 500 branches. There is no way whatsoever that we could sell enough to cover our costs never mind make a "profit". The only way would be for the Subbie to work alone as they would not need to pay anyone! Anyway, how many gold medals are we likely to win especially on Saturdays?! I suspect a comment in a previous posting about testing the water for opening on Sundays may not be too far off the mark.

Re: Olympics
With not many more than 300 Crown Offices left quite a few of the 500 will be Sub Post Offices and as the meagre profit from selling a few dozen stamps wouldn't entice them to open they must be being given some other financial incentive.paulpg36 wrote:Based on what we are paid in a sub Post Office, we would need to sell about 4000 stamps (assuming 1st class) to make £200!
