As i see it the diffeence with a bank and us that I know without going into a high st bank i know what they sell. How long have we been selling at the post office 6 or 7 years and how many customers know the range of products we have on sales, not many except for the regular customer every week that comes in rain or shine. If the post office wants to compete it needs to make sure everybody out there knows what we sell, but instead us counter clerks are worn down selling the same products to the same people every week. It like now some body just asking for a passport form its hundred and one questions and complete a questionaire just for simply asking for a passport form. Would you want to come back in again? A simple job of picking up a form in the post office which should only take a couple of minutes of time can take at least ten minutes. Would you want to come back in again because I wouldnt. The post office needs to live and learn but what I am just a mere counter clerk who doesnt know anything. When I am not a counter clerk i average jo public and i would not go near the post office because it hard work being collered by someone just for a simple form.

As a Postman I don't get the hard sell from counters even if not in uniform, but I must say that I have moved banks and my parents now travel 3 miles further to another PO, and on both occasions for the same reason. The hard sell approach - I know what I want when I go into a bank I don't need reminding if I need a loan or Credit Card. I think the hard sell approach drives more people away than it encourages to visit again. I also think in the long run it costs more than you can recoup in sales or leads.

I think all banks, and POs would better serve the public, and their bottom line, by not asking "Do you want our credit card, we can give you a good APR" but asking "Do you want a leaflet on our new Credit Card" and leaving it at that. Also 1 question per transaction is enough, I left my last bank only 1 year ago because I went in to transfer money and then got asked 4 different question about Cards, Loans, Pensions and Savings Accounts - that was hard sell overload and although not the only reason I moved banks it was certainly the straw that broke the camels back.

Just a postmans thoughts though.

The call has now gone out to ‘sign up as many as we can’ before the 1st November.

So whatever it is that is going to stop us then, we want to do more of now.

There must be some logic in there somewhere.

Heard one of my colleagues say yesterday - "you would be daft not to have one of our credit cards in your circumstances" -

Come November, instead of completing applications in branch, your BM will direct customers to take it out, there and then, that day, how - by using the office phone.

wait and see

So? Your point being?

No, I get it. Instead of some desperate soul handing over a pen with shaking hands... It'll be a phone they give to the customer. :dance

exactly so PO to stop selling CC's will actually not happen, only reduce the amount and ease of completion. I presumme the telephony teams will have a load of legal scripts to read and possibly all the information will have to be sent , signed and returned.

We'll soon see though

Makes sense to me - everything else has to be done over the telephone. What a state we are in.
