Probe launched after postman 'sent obscene letter' to Lanarkshire pensioner

AN INVESTIGATION has been launched after a postman allegedly send an obscene letter to a pensioner at a Lanarkshire sheltered housing complex.

The postman, who is understood to have made two approaches to his to the victim in Motherwell, is now no longer delivering letters according to Royal Mail.

In the first approach, a request was made to be allowed to use the home toilet breaking Covid 19 rules.

At a later point, after being allowed in, the postman allegedly made contact again via the offending note. Police who have launched an investigation is understood to have interviewed other residents at the home.

A police spokesperson said: "We can confirm that a complaint has been received about an indecent communication and enquiries into the matter are ongoing."

A Royal Mail spokesperson said: “Royal Mail expects the highest standards of behaviour from its staff at all times.

“We have launched an urgent investigation into a complaint of a serious nature.

“The individual who was the subject of that complaint no longer works for the business.”

But the person who wrote this article........ is their first language English? This reads like one of those badly written scam letters from Nigeria.

Postman who sent obscene communication to male pensioner in Motherwell has now been arrested


Last week the Motherwell Times printed details of a police enquiry prompted by the alleged sending of an obscene communication by a postman.

It was alleged that the employee who was based at the sorting office in Motherwell had gained access to the home of a male pensioner after asking to use his toilet - in a clear breach of regulations relating to Covid-19.

It was however a second approach in the form of a note to the 68-year-old male householder which has led to the man’s arrest.

The Motherwell Times is privy to the alleged content of the note but has opted not to reveal it in a family newspaper.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland confirmed: “A 37-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with an indecent communication offence at a sheltered housing complex in Motherwell on Thursday, November 19.

“He has been released on an undertaking to appear at Hamilton Sheriff Court at a later date.

“A report has been submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”

Royal Mail has said that the accused no longer works for them.
