A new sorting centre is to be opened in MK to deal with hundreds of thousands of additional parcels expected over the festive season.

And Royal Mail will be recruiting 900 seasonal workers locally to staff the new facility.

People can apply for jobs online hereor or by calling the automated helpline on 0345 600 1785.

The 310,000 sq ft sorting centre will be in Bletchley and will open next month.

It will form part of a network of eight temporary sites Royal Mail is opening nationwide to support parcel deliveries during the festive period

This year, the Christmas peak is predicted to be one of the busiest ever as more consumers switch to online shopping amidst the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and associated restrictions.

The Bletchley site will be the biggest of Royal Mail’s temporary parcel sort centres in the UK. The others are located in areas including Atherstone, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Greenford in West London, Sheffield, Warrington and Northampton

Royal Mail plans to recruit approximately 900 temporary staff for the MK centre to sort the additional Christmas post before the items are delivered to the door by Royal Mail’s postmen and postwomen. These seasonal workers will be part of a nationwide drive by Royal Mail to recruit 33,000 temporary workers during the festive period.

Ricky McAulay, Field Operations Director at Royal Mail, said:
“We’re really pleased to base our latest parcel sort centre in Milton Keynes given its impressive road and transport links.

"We hope that this initiative will bring welcome job opportunities to local people ahead of the festive season, as well as help us to deliver a really special Christmas for everyone this year. It’s been a testing time for so many of us.”

EXACTLY Gary !
Where are the full time roles ?
Oh I forgot !!! we dont employ anyone full time anymore ??
Every Depot in the country at present ? Overwhelmed/Undermanned - Covid hitting us harder second time around !!
Health and Safety ?? Over 21 depots looking for a cleaner ??
Most of the others, cleaners rotate between 3/4 depots a day-hour spent in each at the most !!
Wonder if the new Milton Keynes depot, will have full time cleaners ?? Very unlikely !!!
Our IPS stripped to the bone as nearly half of my depot part time now !!
Not sure if any of our Senior Management ever read this But ?
Certain lady, I know well in greeting card industry advising me,that depite Covid, the industry expecting its best year in a decade !!!!
No doubt we be posting the cards through the doors well into January !!!! re lack of fulltime sorters, and need to social distance in limited space we have

Before Parcel Delivery was transfered to Parcel Force , during the pressure period , town parcel deliveries were upgraded to using hired in Furniture removal vans
The vans were staffed by a hire in driver , Postman & 4 or 5 casuals
