Motorists in the Redruth area are facing delays after a lorry caught fire this afternoon.

There is currently smoke billowing from what is reported to be a Royal Mail lorry located near the town’s Factory Shop.

A witness travelling in the area reported lots of smoke coming from the lorry but no flames.

He describes seeing a fire engine rushing towards the scene and adds that the road is currently impassable because of the smoke.

The road is usually very busy around this time of day. It links Redruth to Scorrier, Chacewater and the A30.

It is also located near to Cardrew Industrial Estate and the road that leads to Redruth School and back towards Pool.

Cornwall Live is currently trying to contact the emergency services to get more information.

Information from fire control

A Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service spokesman has confirmed that the incident is being dealt with.

He said it was the result of the lorry’s turbo blowing up but thankfully the smoke wasn’t followed by flames and nobody has been hurt.
