VIDEO NEWS: Postman nominated for national award
(MONDAY FEBRUARY 19) A QUAINTON postman has been voted first class by villagers - and is now in line for a national award.
Quainton Parish Council wrote to Royal Mail to nominate Neil Cadenhead for the award designed to honour the unsung heroes of the community, charity fundraisers or those who have performed an act of bravery or helped in an emergency while out on their round.

Mr Cadenhead has been Quainton's postie for nearly six years and parish councillor Arthur Evans said although he does not live in the village Mr Cadenhead is a big part of their community, attending village events regularly.

Cllr Evans said: "He is now the only person likely to be visiting all houses routinely and so is one of the few ways in which important local news, which does so much for the community's life and spirit, can be passed on."

Mr Cadenhead spends much of his spare time in fundraising and said he was honoured when the villagers nominated him.

He said: "It's the villagers, they always sponsor me very well on all the charity things I have done so far. It's just nice to be appreciated in the village. Everybody knows me. It's just an honour really and proud to be recognised that people think so much of me."

re: How does one put a value on this contribution?

Post by F0zziebear »

I know I may come across like some capitalist privatise public sector services and destroy the unions - well you are almost right :dance

But it is moments like this article that should inspire the privatisers to realise that you cannot put a value on some of these services.

I was recently consulted on the future of Royal Mail (I am not that senior or important!!!) I this is one of my main concerns if anyone wanted to break-up RM or ever consider selling it to a private company.

Personally we need to preserve this kind of service, even though the cost of the postman is not covered by the mail he/she is delivering.
