Exam results 'will be delivered'
School pupils sitting exam
The exam results are to be delivered by post on Tuesday
School pupils have been assured their exam results will be delivered on time despite the ongoing Royal Mail strike.

The Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) has a contingency plan to use other couriers if the dispute threatens to delay the delivery of results.

About a fifth of the 150,000 candidates will be able to access their results on the internet from Monday.

The remainder are due to learn how they performed in their Standard and Higher Grade exams by post on Tuesday.

The results are also due to be delivered electronically to schools and colleges. The SQA said it may arrange for candidates to be able to see their grades in these centres.

A spokesman for the SQA said Royal Mail had always delivered the results on time in the past, and were confident they would be able to cope this year despite the industrial action.

We have been assured by Royal Mail that the exam results delivery will not be affected by official action
SQA spokesman

He added: "We have been watching closely the developments in the Royal Mail dispute.

"We have been assured by them that the exam results delivery will not be affected by official action and they are closely observing the unofficial strikes.

"We at SQA have contingency plans in place which we will use if and when needed to ensure that all 150,000 candidates can know their results on time on Tuesday. We have been looking at alternative providers."

Royal Mail has been hit by a series of unauthorised wildcat strikes in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen in addition to official 24-hour walkouts by members of the Communication Workers Union (CWU) over pay, pensions and future industry changes.

A Royal Mail spokeswoman said: "Royal Mail has robust contingency plans in place for the SQA contract. We are sure that postmen and women will not want to disrupt a service to young people across Scotland awaiting their results."

Who are these R/M spokespersons?

It's so as they can go to university and leave with a shed load of debt courtesy of the Labour Party the CWU help fund and particularly Alan Johnson, who the EC think we should trust.
Remember! Education, education, education!

That way, when they become screws at their local DO, they stay too skint to join the CMA, let alone go out on the pickets or stand up for their rights ( and then get jealous of those who do, before getting moved elsewhere, possibly promoted, as 'punishment' for B&H complaints )

I'm hoping both my kids will go to university Jim. They're intelligent, well mannered, friendly and have respect for their fellow human beings. Hardly RM Management material I think you will agree.

I'm sure the CWU will have their plans instead of the RM. We do need to be careful about breaking public support by delaying such important things like exam results. I don't see it as blackmail, I see it as a chance to prove we actually do care and we are the best and only people to deliver such things.

And if they did get job as lineos, they'd think of you, when they talk to any postmen & consequently, wouldn't treat them like summat they've stepped in.

I wonder, does RM have a filter in their screw application forms to prevent that happening? For example..."Q: Do any of your relations work for Royal Mail, POL, ParcelForce, etc - if, in what capacity? A: Yes, my father, mother, uncles, aunts and siblings, in all 10 people, all work for Royal Mail plc, as drivers, postmen, sorters, etc & all of them are staunch union men and women." No chance

..."Q: Do any of your relations work for Royal Mail, POL, ParcelForce, etc - if, in what capacity? No, never had any connection - been a miner, like all my forebears....never missed a day, not even during the strike under Scargill. I voted for it, but when that didn't scare Thatcher, I scabbed every day I could - and took all the o/t I could grab....I even drove upto 150miles for more work, especially when me wife left me, in shame, calling me a blackleg - now all my ex workmates have jobs elsewhere & they tell me I'm too old to start elsewhere, and I have no principles or redeeming qualities....I'm bloody desperate for work, you have to help me." Welcome to Royal Mail Management, keep on as you are, inspire the troops to be like you & you could get an office in Royal Mail House, Old Street & fully enjoy your ride on the gravey train

We've got a screw whose dad was a great union man. I often wonder what his dad would think if he could see this smarmy sod leaning on some new bloke to take out a delivery when it's obvious he would rather not.
