Thanks big AL.......I work in one of the units to recieve a Q4 bonus share........That'll help pay for me stopping out for another day on the picket line.....lol :nana

+ I get 33p extra p/w for my strike fund......Double Bubble......lol

And proud of it......

This is a song by a Scottish singer songwriter and hero of mine called Matt McGinn. My mother who as a child was a young pioneer and daughter of a miner used to sing this to my son when he was a baby. I am proud of my working class roots and would like the boy to know where he came from. Sorry I can't hum the tune for you.

Do you like Dick Gaughan? I've got a couple of his older, more political albums. My favourite is True and Bold, Songs of the Scottish Miners, and my favourite track is a Miner's Life is like a Sailor's. It's criminal what Thatcher did to the mining communities.

Saw Dick Gaughan a few years ago but haven't managed to get to another gig so far. He is a great performer and nice guy. I like the Miner's Life song too, Billy Bragg sings it on a documentary he made about a trip to the States to support striking miners.

Thatcher destroyed a unique culture that existed in mining towns and villages throughout Britain and they made her a 'Lady'. Other countries would have had her shot.

I went to a couple of Dick Gaughan's concerts in the 1980's when he did more of the trade union and political songs, and the CD's I have are from that era. I saw him at the Barbican a couple of years ago, and was disappointed that he seems to have dropped them for the more 'traditional' songs, but I suppose that is a reflection of the times.
I have a few Billy Bragg CD's too, and have been to a couple of his concerts in the past, but was put off him somewhat when he supported Oona King against George Galloway in the Bethnal Green & Bow election. It's not that I have a particularly high regard for Galloway, but he was certainly better than the New Labour candidate, and his victory was a boot in the b******s for Blair.
