Royal Mail issues warning to Scottish households as there are 'no deliveries'

Royal Mail has issued a significant service update affecting all postcodes throughout Scotland. The delivery giant ordinarily aims to deliver letters and parcels to homes and businesses six days a week.


However, the firm has faced criticism over delayed deliveries amid stamp price increases due next week. Royal Mail has now issued an urgent notice to anyone expecting post this weekend.


On Friday, April 3, all Royal Mail deliveries and collections will be suspended in observance of Good Friday. In Scotland, however, services will continue to operate as normal.

Disruption is expected to carry on throughout the Easter weekend. Royal Mail's standard weekend delivery and collection services will go ahead on Saturday, April 4.

Customer Service Points will also remain open, allowing customers to collect any missed items. On Sunday, April 5, only Sunday parcel deliveries are anticipated. On Easter Monday, all mail deliveries and collections will be suspended, reports the Mirror.

Royal Mail has also issued disruption alerts this week for postcodes across the UK, citing delays at certain delivery offices. Royal Mail said: "We aim to deliver to all addresses we have mail for, six days a week.

"In a small number of local offices, this may temporarily not be possible due to local issues such as high levels of sick absence, resourcing, or other local factors.

"In those cases, we will rotate deliveries to minimise the delay to individual customers. We also provide targeted support to those offices to address their challenges and restore our service to the high standard our customers would normally receive."

It added: "We're sorry for any inconvenience and thank you for your understanding." The most recent disruptions have hit Birmingham, Grimsby, Lichfield, New Ferry, Pontyclun and Yate.

The disruptions come amid mounting criticism of Royal Mail's delayed deliveries. Just last week, its owner Daniel Kretinsky told MPs: "Of course I am deeply sorry for any letters that arrive late."

Despite this, he rejected claims that Royal Mail's record on late letter deliveries was worsening. Addressing the Commons Business select committee, Mr Kretinsky said: "It is not perfect, but it is not catastrophic."

From next week, customers will face higher postage costs, with First Class stamps rising to £1.80 and Second Class to 91p. A First Class stamp cost just 76p back in 2020.

Royal Mail attributed the price hikes to increasing delivery costs as letter volumes have declined while the number of addresses has grown.
