Royal Mail has issued an explanation for missing deliveries in the S25 and S26 postcodes of South Yorkshire, with some households saying they have not received post in as long as two weeks.

Royal Mail claims the “vast majority” of letters are still being delivered, despite some residents saying they are missing crucial post.

One man in Nether Edge, S7, told The Star how he missed a hospital appointment he didn’t even know he was meant to attend because the letter never arrived.

He wrote to The Star today (December 2) to say: “Steade Road hasn’t had any post from the Royal Mail for 10 days, excluding weekends.

“I had a phone call from the hospital asking why I did not turn up for an appointment. I hadn’t got a clue because no post.

“I’m waiting for electric and gas cards as well.”

Now, a statement from Royal Mail says it is suffering a “temporary resourcing issue” but claims that the “vast majority of mail” is still being delivered.

A spokesperson said: “We are currently experiencing some temporary resourcing issues in parts of S25 and S26.

“This is causing delays on certain routes, however we would reassure customers that the vast majority of mail continues to be delivered as normal. Any delayed items are prioritised the following day.

“We’re sorry for any inconvenience and grateful for customers’ patience.”

It mirrors one S25 resident’s account, written under a post on former MP for Rother Valley Alexander Stafford’s Facebook page, saying: “We have not had any post for at least two weeks.

“I stopped one of the parcel delivery drivers and ask him where the letters are. He told me that the Dinnington office is prioritising parcels.

“They may get some temp Xmas staff starting this week to help with delivery of letters. Don't hold your breath!”
