PARCELS WERE stolen after someone "crowbarred open" a postman's van.

It has been reported that a person broke into the Royal Mail van in Diglis while there were parcels inside.

According to locals, parcels were stolen but were later found in Cripplegate Park.

Royal Mail has confirmed it is aware of the incident and that it has been reported to police.

A Royal Mail spokesperson said: “The safety and security of mail is of the utmost importance to us.

"We are investigating this incident and it has been reported to the police.”

West Mercia Police were unable to provide a comment on the incident.

Councillor Adam Scott said he wasn't aware of an increase in crime in the area.

Cllr Scott, who represents the Cathedral ward on Worcester City Council, said: "I will talk to our local police to see what has happened.

"Of course people should be vigilant. There are often reports of opportunists trying doors."

Someone crowbarring a van door open is not an opportunist thief. They're out looking for a target and equipped to steal. I'm not sure what we can do as posties, the van locks aren't exactly hard to break into and values of the loads is going up as we do more parcels.
