MORE than £6,000 has been raised in memory of a Warrington postwoman who was described as a ‘bundle of fun’.
Lois Thompson, a wonderful mother to Matthew and the light of her fiancé Ian’s life, sadly died in February 2021 aged 52 after suffering with her mental health.
Those who knew Lois, who was a postwoman in the Stockton Heath area, said that she could brighten any room with her presence.
At the time of Lois’ death, only 16 people could attend her funeral due to Covid restrictions. And there also couldn’t be a wake.
However, those who knew her were able to say their goodbyes in a special way as they lined the street of her funeral procession as it made its way to Walton Crematorium.
At the start of the month, a special fundraising event organised by Lois’ loved ones, took place to honour her.
Prior to this, her friends and family said: “Lois never wanted to leave us, she just didn’t know how to stay.
“She is missed so much by so many we want to keep her memory alive and help others in her honour.
“Lois loved a good party so please come along and let’s do it in style as she would have done.”
The event took place at The Grappenhall and Thelwall Royal British Legion on March 1 where Lois was a regular.
As well as honouring Lois, the aim was to raise much-needed funds for the mental health charity Mind and also to help other people who are suffering with their own mental health.
There was live music, food, drink, raffle prizes, a DJ, an auction and more.
The event was sold out, with 185 people attending to celebrate Lois. In total it raised a huge £6,120 for Mind.
Lois’ loved ones have thanked everyone for their support with the event.
Her friend Georgina said: “An amazing amount raised for such an important cause raising money and awareness for mental health.
“Lois would have loved the event and will be so proud of her fiancé Ian Cornwall for organising the event in her memory.”
