A post box has gone missing from a Staffordshire village, with the only clue to its disappearance so far being a loud bang heard the day before.
People living on Camrose Hill in Rudyard discovered the post box was gone on Tuesday after the noise was heard by residents at about 22:40 GMT on Monday.
Damage had also been caused to the road and pavement where the box once stood, Staffordshire Police said.
A spokesperson for the Royal Mail said the firm was aware of the issue and had reported it as theft to the police.
They added: "Customers can alternatively use the post boxes at Upper Rudyard or Horton or drop off their mail at any Post Office branch."
Staffordshire Police has urged anyone with information or CCTV, dashcam or doorbell footage of the area at the time to get in touch.
