Royal Mail respond after 'missed' North East deliveries

Royal Mail has clarified claims that letters and parcels have been delayed and impacted in parts of the North East after it issued a statement.

Residents in Wynyard, near Stockton, had previously claimed that deliveries from the postal service had been missed, including NHS documents and banking correspondence.

But Royal Mail has now put out a statement to say that only one day's worth of post had been missed, which was delivered the next working day, and that there isn't a current issue.

A Royal Mail spokesperson said: “We reviewed deliveries for this area following concerns raised by residents last week and confirmed there remained one day’s worth of mail within the delivery office which was due to be delivered the following day.

"This was soon delivered. We are not experiencing any delays that would result in residents going for substantial periods without post.

"Recently, adverse weather and previous illness within the delivery office caused some delay, however, this has been addressed.”

Royal Mail added: "With letter volumes dropping significantly it’s no longer the case that homes will have mail to be delivered every day.

"Sometimes it can be the case that homes have no mail to be delivered throughout the week."
