Royal Mail has revealed its latest posting dates and, taking to X, which is the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, said: "If you're sending items for Christmas, we have some latest posting dates coming up for our UK Inland Services.

"Please post as early as possible to ensure your items reach their destination in good time." Last posting date for 2nd Class mail is Wednesday, December 18 and the last posting date for 1st Class mail is Friday, December 20.

The last posting date for Royal Mail Tracked 24 is Saturday, December 21 and last posting date for Special Delivery Guaranteed is Monday, December 23. Nick Landon, chief commercial officer at Royal Mail, previously said: “Every year we pull out all the stops to deliver Christmas for our customers.

"We will have an additional 16,000 seasonal workers and almost 4,000 new vans, trucks and trailers added to the fleet in time for Christmas. It’s our busiest time of year and we plan all year round to help ensure we deliver the best possible service for UK consumers and businesses."

It comes a day after the sale of Royal Mail’s parent company to the Czech billionaire Daniel Křetínský has been approved by the UK government after a review under national security laws. The £3.6bn takeover of International Distribution Services (IDS) – the owner of the 508-year-old Royal Mail – by Křetínský’s EP Group was confirmed on Monday morning.

It will be the first time Royal Mail has been controlled by an overseas owner in its history, which can be traced as far back as 1516 under Henry VIII.
