AN OVERJOYED married couple are celebrating after being reunited with their lost wedding ring... thanks to a kind-hearted postie.
Hazelle and Michael Patchett, of Bournemouth Park Road, Southend, have been happily married for 52 years but have spent the last five weeks searching for Michael’s wedding ring after it mysteriously disappeared.
After turning their house up and down, retracing their steps, and even contacting nearby shops to see if anyone had spotted Michael’s ring, they had started to fear the ring was lost for good.
However, on Saturday morning they were left delighted after the “priceless” ring was discovered by a postman on Newington Avenue near their daughter’s home.
Now, they’re appealing to find the postman so they can give him a heartfelt thank you.
“We had been out in Southend when he lost it and after looking everywhere for it, we had just accepted that it was gone forever,” said 72-year-old Hazelle.
“He knocked on my daughter’s door and asked her partner if they had recently lost a wedding ring. He told them that they hadn’t but that we actually had.
“When the postman showed them the ring, my daughter’s partner instantly recognised it as Michael’s. They then video called to tell us about this Christmas miracle.”
The discovery of the ring on the Patchett’s daughter’s property has baffled the family, who say the driveway is used all day, every day, with no one having spotted anything until this weekend’s find.
The couple have since collected their ring.
Hazelle added: “The more you think about it, the less sense it all makes. You can’t put a price on it.
“When we got married in 1972, we paid for the rings with cheques and have still got the stumps.
“It’s something that we could never have hoped to replace.”
Keen to express their gratitude, the Patchetts are now attempting to get in contact with the postman who discovered their lost wedding ring.
“We want to thank him because without him we’d still be without this priceless possession,” said Hazelle.
