Neighbours and friends of a Leeds postman who died after going missing have paid tribute to the "cheerful and helpful" man.
Greater Manchester Police found the body of Steven Hampson-Goodwin, 40, from Leeds, yesterday (Thursday, August 29). Steven had been reported missing at 8am on Sunday, August 25, by his worried family.
He was last seen in Oldham, Greater Manchester, and public appeals were issued by police and his family. Today GMP confirmed the tragic news that he has been found dead. His family said they were "going out of their minds" and described him as "very loved and such a great gentleman".
A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said: " #UPDATE | Sadly, Steven who was missing from #Leeds and was last seen around Crompton Moor in #Oldham on Sunday was found deceased yesterday.
"His family are being supported by specialised officers and have asked for privacy at this time. Our officers would like to thank those who helped in sharing our appeal despite the tragic outcome."
After the news of his death, friends special memories they had of Steven, who is understood to have worked as a postman in Morley. Joanne Jakeman said:"Our lovely smiley, friendly neighbour……..absolutely gutted. Sending love & strength to his family and friends."
Jo Richardson said: "Such sad news, will miss his cheery smile and greeting as he delivered our post - and always had a minute to say hi to my crazy dog. Condolences to his family, friends and colleagues."
Lesley James added: "He was always so friendly and helpful. It’s only a couple of weeks ago he chased down the whereabouts of a lost parcel for me after a glitch in the system."
Mandy Milburn and Ell Lou also said it was 'heartbreaking' for his family and was 'absolutely devastating'. Ell added: "Ste was such a lovely guy."
Jason Liu added his condolences and said: "Going to miss his smile, always smiling while delivering our post.. RIP Steven... Will miss you walking up and down our cul-de-sac. Condolences to your family and your friends..."
Matt-Pedro Pedder also paid his tribute and said: "This is truly heart-breaking. I only knew him as our postman but he was genuinely such a nice guy who I shared many conversations with through out the years."
