There are concerns about a lack of safety measures on and around the newly opened bridge in Nuneaton. Warning - some may find the video upsetting

A woman has been hit by car amid concerns over a newly opened bridge. Fears have been raised about the safety of the new route in Nuneaton.

It comes as locals say roads around the newly opened Bermuda Bridge are being treated like a 'racetrack'. Those who live in the Bermuda village area have raised serious questions about the bridge - only a matter of weeks after it was opened officially for traffic to use.

They have raised worries about a lack of safety measures and safe places to cross now that traffic regularly travels through their area in Nuneaton. This, one resident said, was highlighted by an incident involving a local postwoman caught on camera: some may find the footage below upsetting.

She was hit as she crossed the road close to the Bermuda Phoenix Centre. Speaking about the opening, the local said: "Since they opened the new bridge, people are treating it like a racetrack.

"I feel it will get to the point where someone gets killed. I brought this up months ago and they (Warwickshire County Council) claim the health and safety side of the planning said crossings are not needed."

CoventryLive put the concerns to the county council. In a statement, a Shire Hall spokesperson explained that the situation is being monitored.

"The speed limit along this route is 30mph and there are signs to reinforce this." the statement reads. "The route has been designed and constructed to the latest design standards for the designated speed limit.

"Pedestrian crossing points along the route are designed to provide assistance for pedestrians and to manage vehicles' speeds. We will continue to monitor this road, and further safety measures will be considered should the problem of speeding motorists persist.

"Speed limits are in place to keep drivers and pedestrians safe and to avoid accidents like this happening, we would like to take this opportunity to urge residents to adhere to the speed limits on our roads."

Looks like the post person walked out in front of the car and all the story around Bermuda bridge has no bearing on the actions of driver or post person. You can walk in front of a car on any road but it's not advisable for health and safety reasons.

Speed limits are useless if people are going to ignore them anyway, speed bumps are one way of enforcing the speed limits.

Obviously not if you read my comments properly, the physical effect of slowing the car down would give enough warning.

If you can get the video to load, seems like there's a crossing point just a few meters down the road
