ONE of Clydebank’s longest-serving posties has hung up his mailbag after nearly five decades.

Greig McDaid officially retired on Thursday, March 28 after working at the Royal Mail delivery office in Clydebank for 47 years.

Since his first shift in 1977, the 69-year-old has walked every street in the town, delivering mail to generations of Bankies.

Speaking to the Post ahead of his last run Greig explained that he was looking forward to retirement and has plans to travel.

He said: “I went down to three days last year, but before that, I did the full shift. I’ve always been at this office and I’ve made a lot of friends.

“It’s [Clydebank] the only place I actually know so if I had gone somewhere else I’d have got lost. I’m looking forward to getting out in my motorhome going road trips.”

Many of Greig’s colleagues joined together to wish him well as he finished up last week.

He was presented with a card and enjoyed a speech from his manager who said: “It’s been a pleasure working with Greig.

“I’ve only known him for the last four months and I did try to keep him for another wee year but he’s got to put his feet up and it’s well deserved.”
