RESIDENTS are being warned to expect some delays to post over the coming days.
It comes following the processing and dispatching of mail at Royal Mail’s Warrington centre being incomplete over the weekend.
The firm has a mail centre on Milner Street near the town centre, as well as a ‘super hub’ for parcels at Omega.
The news comes amid ongoing issues faced by Warrington residents over recent weeks and months.
A service update on the Royal Mail website reads: “Royal Mail operates an air, rail and road network to move letters and parcels between our distribution hubs, mail processing centres and delivery offices around the UK
“Our road, rail and air network services operated to schedule over the weekend.
“The Warrington mail centre reported not all mail was processed or despatched to schedule over the weekends.
“As a result, some mail posted in other parts of the UK, due for delivery in the CW, L, WA and WN postcode areas, may be delivered later than expected.”
Over recent weeks, the House of Commons has heard that constituents being impacted by delays in Royal Mail’s services are becoming a “consistent theme”.
Commons Leader Penny Mordaunt said delays in people receiving their mail can have a “pretty devastating impact”.
She was responding to a Labour MP who said a constituent being treated for cancer “missed an important medical appointment due to general disruption of Royal Mail services”, with her letter arriving late.
Ms Mordaunt said: “I know this is a consistent, is becoming a consistent theme, for honourable members on both sides of this house.
“Services are not on target, Royal Mail’s performance targets, and he has just illustrated that this can often have a pretty devastating impact on missed appointments and knock-on effects and inefficiencies for other public services.
“I have ensured that the relevant department is aware of honourable members’ concerns, and I would also just urge all honourable members to do our bit, particularly on the issue of industrial action, to ensure there is no further disruption to mail services.”
A Royal Mail spokesman said: “We express our full sympathies to the MP’s constituent.
“Our top priority is improving quality. We are committed to ensuring deliveries are consistent and reliable, and we have a clear plan in place to help drive this forward.”
