Residents in the Falmouth area reported receiving no post for weeks or even months towards the end of 2021, and it has now emerged that Christmas card turned up a year late.
A former Royal Mail postie is under police investigation after residents reported missing post for weeks or even months towards the end of 2021.
Among the lost mail in the Falmouth area were letters with vital hospital appointments and a heap of Christmas cards. Devon and Cornwall Police believe the incidents happened between September and December 2021.
Affected locals received an apology from Royal Mail earlier this year, with some post arriving more than two years late. One woman was shocked to receive a letter in early 2023 detailing her hospital appointment from 2021, Cornwall Live reports.
Katie Goldburn said she got a letter from Royal Mail explaining the situation and that an investigation was ongoing. "And then we received post and even Christmas cards the following couple of weeks," she added.
Another resident, Tracy Vincent, also experienced missing post during that period. "We had a letter from Royal Mail apologising," she said. "We got my daughter's birthday card nearly a year after the event.
"A lot of our normal Christmas post didn't arrive like cards, etc, and one with a cheque in. Luckily we didn't have any important post go missing."
A number of others affected said their post arrived "years later" and that they recall not receiving any post for weeks.
Falmouth and Helston Police shared an appeal this week asking for anyone affected to get in touch with the investigating officer, police constable Fuller. Officers for Devon and Cornwall Police said it received a report regarding a postal worker for Royal Mail failing to deliver post in the Falmouth area.

A spokesperson for Royal Mail said: "An amount of mail for Falmouth was found earlier this year in Camborne, all dated between September and December 2021. All the recovered mail, along with an apology letter, was delivered to affected residents throughout March and April. We carried out an internal investigation and the missing mail was connected to an agency worker, not a Royal Mail employee, who left the business"
