'My neighbour called police to collect parcel delivered by mistake to my house'

A woman who found a parcel had been delivered wrongly to her was shocked to have to explain herself to cops who turned up looking for a reported missing item

A woman who was rudely awakened by a police officer hitting her door has asked the internet if she should make a complaint to the precinct – or the delivery company – about their driver.

The poster asked other users of Reddit if she was in the wrong to feel angry that she was put in that position through no fault of her own, and other users backed her to the hilt. The woman said that she brought inside the parcel and thought nothing of it.

However, as she was about to settle down for the night, she was shocked to find that police had came to her front door to and answers about the parcel. She handed over the delivery, but was left with a feeling of guilt, despite doing nothing wrong.

The poster, Nursethatnos, said: "I was just woken up by the wrapping of a police baton at my front door. Just before I fell asleep, a package was delivered to me. I thanked the guy and brought it inside. By the time I realised it wasn’t for me, said delivery driver was gone. I was barely dressed, teeth brushed, about to slide into my bed and told myself I’d walk it to my neighbour’s house in the morning. This was the first time this has happened in the 1 1-and-half years I’ve been at my current address and didn’t think twice about it."

And another said: "I keep getting mail for someone who lived in my apartment before. There was one specific mail that I kept writing 'wrong address' and putting it back and they kept putting a seal on top of my text and sending it back to me. By the third time I said 'f*** it' and just threw it in the trash. I'm sorry if it was important but that was just ridiculous."

A third worried about police priorities and said: "They must be in a very low crime area if cops come in 30 minutes for something like this. I live in a small town and we don't have local cops working on weekend nights. (Make it make sense.) Years ago, some guy in a drug-induced psychosis came to my door saying people were chasing him with guns and he was trying to get into the house. We locked the door obviously and he actually went around the back, through the fenced yard, and tried to get in the back door. It took three 911 calls and 45 minutes before a sheriff's deputy got here."
