People living in Mylor Bridge are preparing to bid farewell to their postman who is retiring after 34 years.

Bryan Trevelyan will complete his last postal round on July 21, which is his 70th birthday.

He joined the Post Office in February 1989 after several years of working as a motor trade mechanic.

He explained: "I felt I needed a complete change of direction."

Bryan is also a scout master and has been district commissioner four times.

He has received a number of awards during his time with the scouts, including the Silver Acorn, which is an award for good service.

The community of Mylor Bridge is getting ready to wish Bryan well in his retirement and thank him for his contributions.

Irene Gardiner, who lives in Mylor, said: “He will be very much missed for his humour and extreme kindness wherever he goes on his rounds.

“He has given wonderful service to us humans and his ‘beloved doggies’."

Djamal and Sue from Mylor Bridge Newsagents and Post Office have set up a collection for donations towards marking Bryan’s retirement.

Irene added: “We wish him, with Lucy by his side and his Jack Russell dogs, a very happy and long retirement. Let’s do him proud as he has done us.”
