More details have emerged about the new home for Nuneaton's Royal Mail sorting office. As we reported in our newsletter, the current sorting office in Church Street is set to move to a unit in Bermuda.

This is because the land it sits on forms part of the 'Justice Walk' regeneration project which includes a £20m learning and living zone which will boast a new library, offices and up to 65 homes planned for the Church Street and Vicarage Street area. Its new home is proposed to be on land at Hazell Way, which is off Bermuda Road.

New plans submitted to Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council show that a new warehouse and distribution depot/ postal sorting office would be created. There would be access onto Bermuda Road and Hazell Way and there would be a new car park as well as bicycle shelter with security fencing and a high-capacity trolley store.

The detailed plans show what and where drainage schemes will be installed within the site to prevent any possible flooding. It also includes details on the loading yard and how vehicles will access and move around it.

A map within the application also shows how the ground floor will be laid out. This includes the public enquiries office as well as admin and toilet facilities for staff and a drying room and mess and welfare room for staff.

The application for approval of details reserved by conditions are now being looked at by planners at the Town Hall. As part of this, there is a public consultation and people can view all of the plans by visiting the council's website, under the planning applications section and search for application number 039426.

The target decision date for the application has been set as April 7.
