A man from Southampton has been convicted of racially aggravated assault on a postman. Levi Allan was also caught causing criminal damage while wielding a meat cleaver by police who were called to the scene last month.

Levi Allan, 22, of Coxford Road, appeared at Southampton Crown Court today (Monday, October 3). He had previously been charged with malicious communications after making abusive and threatening calls to the 999 service; racially aggravated assault by beating; assault by beating; affray and possession of a bladed article in a public place.

Officers from Hampshire Constabulary were called to a property on Coxford Road just after 10am on September 10 following reports that a postman had been racially assaulted. The court heard that, when police arrived, Levi Allan was seen causing criminal damage inside a property while in possession of a meat cleaver.

Allan pleaded guilty to affray, racially aggravated assault and malicious communications at a hearing on September 12. Today he was sentenced to 10 months' imprisonment, suspended for 18 months, as well as being ordered to complete 250 hours of unpaid work, attend a rehabilitation activity for 20 days and pay statutory costs.
