Diane Johnson slammed Royal Mail after blunder

A Stoke-on-Trent woman has slammed Royal Mail after a postie's blunder saw her mum's letters delivered to neighbour. Diane Johnson, of Weston Coyney, wrote to The Sentinel to complain after six letters addressed to her mum were put through the wrong door.

Diane's mum then watched out for the mailman the next day and confronted him about the mix-up. Despite his apology, she wasn't satisfied with his excuse that 'these things do happen'.

Her disgruntled daughter reached out to The Sentinel's readers to find out whether the same thing had happened to them.

Diane wrote: "Last week, my mum's neighbour knocked on her door with no less than six letters that the postman had pushed through her door - two of these were quite important. The next morning, my mum waited for the postman and asked him if he delivered the mail the day before and if he was familiar with the street and number layout.

"He said 'yes' and she told him what had happened. He apologised and, in the next breath, said 'but these things do happen'. This isn't good enough and it's not the first time it's happened as she has had to give neighbours mail that had been wrongly delivered.


I always thought the main qualifications for delivering mail was being able to read and recognise numbers. Have any Sentinel readers had this happen to them, because I really don't think it's good enough."

A Royal Mail spokesperson said: “We are very sorry to read reports of some items of mail having been delivered to a neighbour’s address, instead of to our customer’s address. We apologise for any inconvenience caused. The vast majority of mail is delivered safely and on time. Anyone who has concerns over the delivery of their mail should contact the Royal Mail customer service team on 03457 740 740 or via the Royal Mail website."

The Postie apologised and tried to explain how it could have happened. Apparently that's not good enough. What would she consider good enough? The Postie being sacked! First World Problems, get over yourself!

Sounds like she’s got a right life - waiting at her moms watching for the postman to confront him.
What does she expect him to say? Like another poster said: I wonder if Diane has ever made a mistake. We all know a few “Dianes’ on our rounds, no doubt.

You know you're in trouble when a customer appears and says, "Were you delivering the mail yesterday"?

I'll normally say, "No it was my day off ... must have been someone else". I've never had anyone say, "Well tell them they did a wonderful job"! They always want a moan.

I expect she has never made a mistake in her life? She needs to realize how much we have to do everyday and the pressure put on us by management then she might actually understand why mistakes happen

I suspect it's more an attention seeking thing than a genuine issue, probably ranted on Facebook to her mates for some likes and some bored intern at whatever the Sentinel is has decided to message her and use it as a "letter".

Everybody wants to be outraged by something these days, usually something dull as...

I made this mistake today. Delivered a letter intended for no. 26 to no. 28 as the font made the the 6 look like an 8. Customer chased me a good 100 yards down the road to hand me a letter intended for a house 3 feet away, just to make her point.
