A 98-year-old care home resident has been gifted a postman's uniform by Royal Mail so that he can look the real deal when delivering his care home's post.

Ray Stanley took it upon himself to deliver post to the 68-resident Upton Bay Care Home in Poole after moving into the home. However, the role was not easy as the care home has three floors and received over 100 letters in one week during the Christmas period.

Mr Stanley wished for a uniform to reflect his hard work, and the care home considered buying one but hoped to find him something authentic. Staff contacted Royal Mail's Deliver Depot on Hill Street in Poole to ask if a Royal Mail uniform might be available, and the depot gifted Mr Stanley an embroidered shirt, cap and iconic red bag for him to sport on his rounds.

Upton Bay Care Home general manager Mevin Sohorye said: "We are so grateful for Royal Mail Poole for their gift to Ray. It truly is a pleasure to be able to fulfil a special wish for a resident."

Ray Wears the uniform on his delivery round which, assisted by Activity Lead Karen Grant A'Court, he makes sure to complete before 2pm. He said: "It gives me the chance to talk to other residents, who otherwise I might not see everyday.

"I especially enjoy visiting Memory Lane, where people with dementia are cared for. I feel like I'm bringing them a little bit of joy."
