Police want to trace a man caught on a doorbell camera wearing a Royal Mail jacket at around the same time as an attempted break-in.

Avon and Somerset Police say the rear door of a house in Newbridge Road, St Annes, was damaged during the attempted burglary between 1pm and 3pm on Thursday 2 September.

Police have today (November 29) issued an image of a man they want to speak to as part of their investigations.

He was captured on doorbell footage wearing an orange high-vis tabard with what appears to be a Royal Mail logo on it.

"We’ve been unable to identify him despite enquiries with Royal Mail, who say he is not a member of staff," a police spokesperson said.

The man is described as white, aged between 40 and 50, and stocky with a shaved head. He wore a black jacket and face mask.

Police say officers have been following a "number of lines of enquiry" and one person has been arrested and released under investigation.

The spokesperson added: "All Royal Mail employees carry identification which they will show on request. If you have any concerns about someone claiming to be a Royal Mail employee you can confirm with the local delivery depot using a number from the phone book or their website."

Anyone with information which could help to identify this man is asked to call 101 and give the reference number 5221203304.
