A postman became suspicious of an oval-shaped package among the mail this morning and the bomb squad were called to the Penarth town centre delivery office.
Police are no longer treating the package as suspicious but are believed to be tracing the intended local recipient for an explanation as to why the replica explosive was sent in the post.
Although not illegal, after recent events it could be perceived as irresponsible to send such an item.
