Brown says UK postal workers should accept 2.5 pct pay offer to tackle inflation
LONDON (Thomson Financial) - Prime Minister Gordon Brown today warned postal workers they should accept a 2.5 pct pay deal or risk pushing up inflation in future years.
Brown was speaking in the House of Commons as thousands of Royal Mail staff prepare to walk off the job at 19.00 BST over pay and mechanisation of the system.
He told MPs that while he believed all workers should have 'decent pay', low settlements should be used as a means to 'conquer' inflation.
'People have got to accept settlements to make sure inflation is low in the years to come,' he said.
The Communications Workers Union has organised a two-week campaign of staggered strike action throughout all of Royal Mail's divisions to maximise disruption.
The first action will see staff at Post Offices and Royal Mail sorting offices walk out in a 24-hour strike.

I'll take the offer - without the strings please and with CWU involvement in deciding the rest. But it is obvious that Mr Brown does not have the full facts or he would not be saying what you are quoting. However, thanks for posting it.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Of course we have been set a fine example in frugality by our leaders who are so concerned about inflation that they are trying to gather all the money available into their pockets so that they can look after it for future generations - we earn our increases - we don't simply think of a figure and grab it.

Of course Brown wants us to accept a below inflation pay rise,he's the architect behind low public sector pay. We're not going to be used as pawns to drive inflation down, interest rates go up and pay goes down, welcome to neocon world where the super rich pay no tax at all and the workers pay it for them.

How dare you, naughty boys and gals go on strike . I spent all your money in Iraq and Afghanistan. Inflation is about to take off and you go on strike. Now were is Margret's phone number she would know how to deal with this , look at the way she handled the miners. God I did love her!!

Brown sounds just like the conservatives did, every year we had to have below inflation pay rises to tackle inflation, while they robbed us of millions that should have gone to our pensions and took 90% of the profits year in and year out, we are in this mess because of goverment, i wonder how much inflation went up when Leighton and Crozier gave themselves and other managers hundreds of thousands of pounds in bonuses, this goverment is more like the conservatives, where the rich get richer and the poor get poorer...UNITY IS STRENGTH.
