Whenever you go into the Halifax these days, the counter clerk will ask who you have your house insurance with and tell you they can do it cheaper. Just like people phoning up asking if you would like new windows or knocking and asking if you would like to change your gas supplier from British Gas to Joe's Cafe, it's a bloody big turn off. I expect people turning up to buy their morning paper, the latest James Patterson novel or a packet of paper clips from their new improved Post Office will feel the same. We don't like to feel pressurised.

"They are said to be bitterly resentful that their conversations with customers are being monitored and that they face an army of 'secret shoppers' checking that they ask questions from a prepared script."

"Prepared scripts" my God, this is taking me back to my `retail/selling days` Oh no the nightmares are going to begin again!!!!!!!!!!!! Mr Leighton/Government this is a service business we are in. If you both want it to be a `profit making business` We have to have a level playing field.

If the madman had any balls he would be fighting with Us/CWU FOR SUCH and then if this came to be, we would have no competition, whoops back to square one.

I hate this s**t.

Managed to get my bank to stop trying to sell me stuff over the phone, then I went into the branch and they did it. Told them I'd got a block on direct selling on my account, and they said "that's only on the phone we're legally obliged to sell you stuff in branch" wtf!

If we let him win this dispute what the betting we will be selling insurance when we have to get a signature or hand over a packet. I did call centre for 7 years and at the end when I was a Customer Care Operator they brought it in that I would be counselled if I did not make a sale on each complaint. Imagine that an order has not arrived and I had to ask them what else they wanted to get delivered,
