A SOMALIAN man who used a bogus identity to gain work at a Royal Mail sorting office so he could steal mail and credit cards has been jailed.

Mohammed Fazaldin, aged 29, of Coronation Road, Hillfields, was caught stealing letters from Northampton's main sorting office but investigators then found he had been employed under a false name and identity.

The father of two was jailed for 16 months at Northampton Crown Court.

Judge Charles Wide told him: "Breach of trust by people working for the Post Office and stealing the public's mail is always regarded by the courts as particularly serious.

"It started with you working under a false name. The explanation that you give in the report and through your counsel, I regard as utterly ridiculous.

"You were not looking for letters someone had written to their aunt, you were looking for things you could make money out of."

Fazaldin previously claimed to have been a victim of identity fraud, but changed his pleas to admit obtaining a pecuniary advantage by deception and the theft of a single letter and on a second occasion up to 12 letters.

Joe Spicer, prosecuting, said Fazaldin, who arrived in this country in 2002, submitted his own picture as part of his employment application but used the name Talim Karim while working for Royal Mail between November 2003 and March 2005.

16 months is that all they are too lame when dishing out punishments for stealing, ideally they should deport him, 16 months free board and lodgings and 3 meals a day aint a punishment

I know a few Somali lads and they're alright. You will always get some nugget letting the side down. It's always best not to generalise.

Didn't anyone check his references? If they did, who checked theirs! Incompetents! I mean if he'd only been in the country for 5 years, and got caught after stealing twice, he doesn't sound the brightest of master criminals, not like our Alan and Adam. Bet the Daily Mail will use this...

Its just this story makes a mockery out of Royal Mail and our country... This Person is Somalian .. SO WOT....?

I have a very good mate who Is Cockney/Somalian and is as good a bloke and Union rep as anyone i know....
Yes generalising is wrong.. But this bloke who nicked and lied his way in took the piss and should be deported if he hasnt a valid passport or Visa.
Not housed in one of HMP's but outed.. FULL STOP.. Why should this country pay for people who only come here to rob and steal
from this country??? SOFT TOUCH.... Thats why.. Now im not asking for a woman nicking a loaf of bread to have her hands cut off
but there has to be stronger laws to stop this happening... TO MUCH I SAY..... When i began in this job i was vetted, (sent to a vet as well) FLEAS!!!
Then stood before a board n done tests... After 6 mnts got my uniform, after 13 mnts i got my full contract and then was seen and felt like a POSTMAN..

Any tom dick and harry can walk in now give a name and NI number and start work with RM even if got a record as long as your arm...

Its so wrong.. And then people wonder why there post goes missing.. Its the shite pay RM pay and the people they want to encourage to work here...
People with no pride or morals in the job or country... More important in themselves!! Just a wage that is enough but not enough so peoples greed comes in to play and nick at the levels this bloke was prepared to go to.... Well done Big AL and lil adam again for letting this to go on....

Is there any hope for us all???

I think NOT saying something is as bad as the crime... Letting this to happen in a job where most were vetted is a crime in its self..

Rocks mate i think Racism is one thing but this is a joke and people shouldnt be scared to stand up and say its wrong!!! Did any one bring up the race card when the screw got caught for nicking from his DO a while back.. Do you remeber Rocks..??. There was a post on here about it.. (cant find it off my head) But he was white and male so it never came up.... This isnt a RACE ISSUE ITS A CRIME AND SHOULD BE TREATED AS ONE...If this bloke is an illegal then he should be deported.. FULL STOP!!!!

Totally agree, it is time we stopped messing about, if different races want to come and live here fine, but if they cannot live by the laws of this land we should be able to reserve the right to deport them to their birthplace.

It's actually been done at Preston MC , Asian girl got the sack for drugs, credit cards aparently when it was West Cliff by the train station , she got in using a relatives passport , nobody grassed her up, she was allright , hated the place then went acting . Far, Far too good for a s******* like that . Then there was the ram raid , Area manager recognised her as he'd sacked her previously , frogmarched to the bus stop.
