Tribunal backs Royal Mail over postie who got the sack

Post by NEWS »

BELFAST TELEGRAPH

A reckless Royal Mail driver who carried out a three-point turn on the M2 motorway in his delivery truck was sacked fairly, an industrial tribunal has found.

The Macedonian driver was stopped by police after he carried out the death-defying manoeuvre in his truck at the end of the slip road heading north off the Sandyknowes roundabout onto the M2.

Blaze Dimovski had gone onto the motorway to turn and was about to drive back up the sliproad the WRONG WAY when a nearby police patrol swooped in January last year.

He later claimed that he was only trying to deliver the post quicker!

Dimovski was given the boot a number of weeks later on grounds of gross professional misconduct following a disciplinary hearing.

But Dimovski - an Orthodox Christian - then claimed that he had been unfairly dismissed on grounds of race or religion.

He also argued that he was unfairly sacked, as other employees had kept their jobs after a catalogue of mishaps. They included a Royal Mail driver who reversed his van into a shed without waiting for the door to open and another driver who damaged an aircraft while loading mail.

A third driver who had his van stolen after leaving the keys in the ignition while he collected mail also escaped with his job intact.

However, the tribunal ruled that none of these incidents was as serious as the "cavalier recklessness" of Dimovski and that he had not been discriminated against.

Many years ago, back in the 80s' I worked for a private transport company dealing with air freight. One day, freight was delayed coming into the country, cos some tosser at the airport in Belguim drove a forklift through the side of the plane! Honest. :d'oh!

When I was in the RAF I saw an accident report about a collision between an aircraft and a fuel bowser. Speed for both was 0 mph.

Apparently the bowser was positioned under the wings when refuelling the aircraft, as the bowser emptied it went up on its suspension and as the aircraft tanks were filled it settled down - result the bowser damaged part of the wing of the aircraft. :d'oh!

The Moral of the story is if you rush around trying to save time, you could put yourself in danger and in this case it could have been other people?

sack

Post by madelin4 »

I think royal male managers are just on the lookout to sack full-time staff full-stop!! This morning when i came in i had a note left for me from a dep manager asking why a pile of mail to be endorsed on my frame, the reason it was there is becasue the bloke doing my walk the week i was off never done any!! so many for me to do, i got round to sticking red stickers on them all but been so busy to sit down and do them..also on a saturday the usual gates locked etc on a sat morning, i made the mistake of putting the mail back in the frame when i got back but not writing anything on them to suggest the gates locked etc.. 2day my manager was basically trying to get me to say that i had brought some of the letters back on purpose , i.e. mailsort etc, that wud then be will-full delay!! i was rage and told him that yes my mistake i didnt note gate locked" and i said as regards to the mail that wasnt endorsed when i was off he as a manager shud have noticed it as it was the first thing i noticed when i got back after holiday!! i told him they shud not have been there and my desk shud have been how i left it! dont think he was happy.. but the whole thing stresses me out!! it dont take much in there to stress me.. and i take care with my work , i do a good job and really do care and this bothers me a lot when i get treated in this way!! any1 else experince this? i went sick because of this boss moving me b4 to rural duty and it got to me.. i just think what next? i cant go on thinking that people want sack us.

get used to it because they do, every full timer at 40 hrs or part timer at 30 hrs saves money when replaced with a 20 to 25 hrs person and its all about money now
