Leighton in the Sun.

Post by NEWS »

YOU’D expect me to say I’m hugely disappointed that some postmen and women have voted to go on strike. And I am.

I think that strike action now will do long-term damage to our postal services — and to the livelihoods of the people we all rely on to deliver the mail.

If there is a strike, I don’t think it will be about pay.

It will be about trying to stop changes which are already happening in the world around us and which will continue, regardless of strike ballots in this or any other business.

We have to modernise. Royal Mail isn’t immune from change — we’re all sending fewer letters (and the internet isn’t going away) and our competitors are taking a bigger and bigger share of a smaller postbag.

We can’t go on running a business based on sorting millions of things by hand every day when newer companies are now using modern technology to do it cheaper and quicker.

Technology is changing the post, just like it is changing everything else.

I know that the daily post remains an essential part of all our lives.

But delivering it will get a lot more difficult if Royal Mail goes on strike.

Not just on the day of any action, but in the long-term as well. Why?

Very simple — it will mean rivals such as Dutch-owned TNT and German Deutsche Post seize even more of the profitable business post market.

But we want change we want Modernisation and your not doing it. Your definition of modernisation is for posties to work longer hours in the hotest part of the day, carry heavier loads and for less pay. A pay rise where - its a pay cut.

The Sun. He's chosen a right rag there. The paper which celebrated the deaths of hundreds of Argentinian conscripts any one of which was far less an enemy of mine than the wasters sitting in Westminster or drones like Crozier and Leighton. The paper which forged an interview with the widow of Sgt. McKay V.C because they couldn't get a real quote from the woman. The paper which did its best to promote racism as being respectacle. The paper which victimised a toddler with a rare brain disease and published his picture under the title of 'The naughtiest child in Britain' and reluctantly had to apologise. The paper which has supported Thatcher, Eddie Shah and all sorts of reactionary scum including Leighton. The paper which lied about Liverpool supporters at Hillsborough and took fifteen years to apologise and then only after a massive boycott. It's a good job Der Sturmer folded in 1945 or Big Al would have his ugly mug in that too.

I was in the forces when that "Gotcha" headline was printed and it made me cringe. Anyone who has been on active service (and most who have not) knows its should not be handled in such an appalling way. Have not purchased the Scum since.

God if I hear win win or lose lose one more time I will scream :arrrghhh , haven’t they realised that its not about the money its about the way we are treated.

It’s the harassing phone calls when you are on sick, it’s a workplace where there is no dignity and respect from management only the dictate of the bully and the floundering ineptitude of managers who are only one step removed from the school yard thug.

I would have had more respect for Dumb and Dumber if they had fought the Goverment over opening our mail markets 2 years before any other E.U country had to, for not fighting to make competitors have to deliver mail if they decided to compete, for not saying to the Goverment you under invested in RM for 20 years whilst taking 90% of the profits and give us 6 or 7 years to invest in the company before you open the mail markets, and also for not asking the Goverment to pay the money back into our pension it owed it by taking a 13 year pension break.
Since 98 RM have made massive and costly management decisions which have cost this company hundreds of millions of pounds, you all know what they are, it seemed to me that there was an agenda to make sure RM was f**ked up to prep it for privatisation Lets be honest about this RM are in this position because of really poor management, and we are an easy solution to get rid of to make up for their mistakes.
I wonder how many jobs could be saved if all of senior management had their wages reduced by two thirds and their bonuses added on to...UNITY IS STRENGTH.

'If Royal Mail pulls together and concentrates on customers, these changes could put money into postmen’s pockets as well as giving Royal Mail the chance to become world class.'

The bone idle get is going to get a bonus of £100,000 on top of what he imagines to be his earnings. Let's see if he has the moral fibre to do the job on our money.

He wouldn't last five minutes. Did anyone see him on Sky News this morning? When I first saw him, I thought they were interviewing a clown. Why does he dress like that?

Post by mdtomuk »

  SORRY DON'T LOOK AT SAID COMIC, BUT WAS HE IN 'DEAR DEARDIE'? WAS DEAR DEARDRIE IN THE SUN? LORDY CAN'T REMEMBER? I REMEMBER USELESS EUSTACE IN THE DAILY MIRROR, WHEN IT WAS A PROPER WORKERS 'PAPER. I'VE BOUGHT THE INDEPENDENT FROM DAY ONE (he's waffling again . . . . .ed!) AND NORMALLY IT TAKES THE BALANCED VIEW, WELL EXCEPT FOR THE BUSINESS SECTION ANYWAY (do you have a point? . . . . ed). OH, NO ACTUALLY!
