Whats the difference between person suspended and wages suspended????tooty wrote:I think most of the unofficial action has been down to the misinterpretation of the word suspension, managers were supposed to be telling members that their wages were suspended and not the postie/driver leading to a lot of confusion and a huge show of strength from our members which hopefully the clown partners Adam and Eve/Allan have sat up and taken notice of.
A big thanx to all the pickets who turned out at the dunfy D.O. this morning/afternoon who enjoyed a barbie and a lot of support from the public.Only downside was one scab la grade out of 180 plus strikers who decided to join the scab managers doing our work but hay ho im sure they will sleep soundly.

Newcastle full story...
Right...
Glasgow mail was brought into Newcastle and the staff had assurances that the mail would not be handled by the postmen on floor at Newcastle. However, there was trays of mech that had entered the system and had been broken down on a tray seg to individual interplans for the inward LSM's to sort.
Some of the trays had ended up at a machine where a rep was working and he was feeding on the LSM. He saw the Glasgow trays and told his line manager that he was not prepared to feed the trays into the machine. He was asked again and refused to do it as it was scab mail that should not have even entered into the system while the colleagues were out in Glasgow.
He was taken into the office and asked again where he refused. He asked for another rep to come in as he knew ultimately what was going to happen to him and told the other rep that on principle he woulod not touch this mail. The other rep agreed with him about his principles.
The manager came back into the office, asked the lad once more and he refused. He was then 'precautionary suspended' and escorted of the premises.
Then, 200 or so workers followed suit and walked out.
Apparently the early shift was kept out by the nightshift and the early shift kept out the lateshift and this was going to continue until the lad had his suspension lifted and discipline charges dropped. The charges WERE dropped and suspension WAS lifted!!!
I am aware though that because our colleauges were out in Glasgow that our colleauges in Newcastle were up for the fight with management because although the Newcastle posties were told that no mail from Glasgow would enter Newcastle, it did. I do know that this infuriated the colleagues in Glasgow AND Newcastle and Newcastle walked in show of support for Glasgow.
On Newcastles return to work, they were told that the rep was in the wrong refusing to handle the mail as it wasn't a diversion. BULLSHIT!!! It was black mail that should not have entered the system in the first place and the actions of the Newcastle rep were right and he deserves a pat on the back for sticking by his principles.

Liverpool Dispute
Latest News
Liverpool returned to work thursday night, the engineering staff, who had also been out with us, where confronted by their manager with new contracts of employment. They were told agree and sign them or they were off pay forthwith. A standoff took place, and the manager was told if he pushed this the Mail Centre would empty within ten minutes. He then got on the phone for about ten minutes, and then quickly backed off.
Friday we were read a statement from Ricky Macauley area manager [ former manager in Edinburgh I believe] which was nothing but pure venom and spite, all our area reps are back to duty for three months as punishment! Industrial relations in the Liverpool area are at an all time low [ again]. The statement was read out to our late shift to try to intimidate them, but the managers in the coding area on nights refused to read it out deeming it too provocative. Times ahead look bleak! I'll keep you posted.
