CWU says "We are always open to negotiation and therefore, we have agreed, because we don't wish to disappoint Harry Potter Fans, not to strike on this particular week. We now ask Royal Mail to reciprocate that gesture by coming back to the table and start negotiation instead of endlessly reiterating their position".
I think that might be a good idea as so far the media has been pretty one-sided in it's support for RM. It might work to get some people on our side. I'm no HP fan (and neither are my kids thank fook!) but it may work in our favour. A bit of good publicity for us perhaps but would management take the credit...almost certainly!!

I've seen parcels lying on doorsteps for days, on busy streets and out in the rain. And a lot of the time we get the blame because people associate deliveries with Royal Mail. What's becoming more common is people returning parcels as unwanted and they have a competitors frank on them. Once a guy came into a post office on my delivery and dumped about five parcels down on the counter, said they were gone aways and walked out. They had all been delivered by competitors so when I came in to do the collection I put them in my van, drove round to the guys house and told him if he wanted them returned he would either have to pay postage or phone up the companies to have the couriers pick them up. Guy didn't know what to say.
I'm also fed up of been stopped by the delivery drivers asking directions. Sometimes I get stopped several times a day by courier drivers asking for directions. I used to help them as they are only doing a job like us but now I tell them I don't know the area well and can't help them. How often have any of you had to stop a DHL van and ask where a certain house is? Never I bet. So let them deliver the Harry Potter books and see how they get on. And when they ask you where an address is...!
Hi Rowdy I try to NEVER tell a rival courier delivery driver where a place is, just be polite and say you take my work away then expect me to tell you where they are, do you see Tesco staff shelf filling in Sainsburys?

Hi Waffler, you're right and I don't help them anymore. And for all the slagging off we take I do think we do a better job than them. But let's remember who the real enemy are, these couriers are only doing a job like you and me. It's those who hold the real power, those bosses who conspire and deal with each other to keep us down that we need to fight against.
If we can win this fight for a better deal maybe the people who work for our competitors can follow our example and take a stand for more pay. Hopefully they will and we can support them in a show of solidarity. Then our bosses can no longer use the argument that we are overpayed in relation to our competitors.
thank f**k the little s**t dies in this one, makes me laugh at our office you have packets that dont get delivered on a saturday cos theres no one to cover the duty(bullshit)yet they jump over backwards to get that book delivered, strike on the 21st who cares bout upsetting the kids they dont pay my wages
You're exactly right Rowdy from what I've heard and read most of these rivals are paid even worse than us, I do it more in the hope they will take the item back to their depot and the firm's bosses might get a rocket over it from the customer and sender than to upset the drivers. Been on the same delivery for a few years and I usually say to the customers if they are expecting something to find out which courier will bring it as they are paying for it, and if it is left on their doorstep exposed in the wet etc. they will know which tree to bark up, not mine or yours! Hopefully we can get a positive result out of this and the rival firms workers will take us as an example of what can be achieved.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been. My BFF Clash The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

OK so you say...... And as Postcomm make RM deliver Rivals work for a loss and Lil adam hasnt put up a fight , or a good enough fight
To not deliver, and then takes a massive bonus and pleads poverty, helps all our causes does it DOM.. Hows your bonus getting along then???
Thats REALLY HELPING OUR BUSINESS AINT IT DOM?????? And it might help (THE BUSINESS) If we had people at the top that 1) Dont lie thru there teeth and 2) Dont shite on the workers and make out we are all of a sudden Over paid and Under worked... THAT DONT HELP THE SO CALLED BUSINESS AT ALL DOES IT DOM????? I will wait for a responce from you as it will take you some time to go chat to your guvnor and then come back to pretend its all your ideas like most screws!!! Or better still Google for the SCREWS HANDBOOK ON BULLSHITE, THE BIG AL WAY.. another name for his new book on business. Your mantra... The brainwashed school of cheating lies and deceit... £9.99. I think the point with a lot of us is that we're sick and tired with being hit with the big stick.
From people like you, your guv,his guv up to laurel and hardly, and on top of that PostCON,and the government,oh and the EU freeloaders.
Open up the market by all means but give us a level playing field and get these scum to deliver it themselves.

I agree with what you say about opening the market. We are being forced to fight our biggest rivals with one hand tied behind our backs - Hardly fair. If the market is open let us all play by the same rules!!
