ROYAL MAIL RULES OUT CUTTING BACK SIX-DAY DELIVERIES

Royal Mail has informed Postcomm it does not wish to reduce the number of deliveries it makes from six to five days a week. This follows Postcomm chief executive Sarah Chambers saying at a London conference the firm's delivery requirements were being examined as part of a future regulation review. Royal Mail chief executive Adam Crozier wrote to the regulator explaining the group has not asked for reduced deliveries. "In the communications market, what sets us apart is we deliver six days a week to the front door of more than 27 million addresses," he said.

The calculation has been used for a long time and is purely legit. It is mainly those who fall into the 50-54 age bracket with 20-25 yrs service. It is cheaper to pay them a wage and keep them in Royal Mail rather than pay out 25 yrs service and pensions. I can't remember the details now as it's some time ago, but there ways of waiving things to enable people to go. It just doesn't make economic sense to let some people go.

Also please note that out of the 40,000 redundancies there are likely to be several thousand non-operational frontline people going. This is an abvious but unmade point as the number of frtonline goes down you can then remove various support roles and managerial ones that you don't see. For example in HR, Finance, IT support, Ops HQ. Ops HQ has taken a battering over the years as it became really bloated. Literally 70% has gone over 5 years. This is a good thing as it has made decision making and implementation of decisions easier and more accountable. When I joined it was just one big mess where things got caught up in bureaucracy.

If I was you I'd only go to TNT/DHL if you enjoy performance related pay. If you are happy to work long & hard hours then the rewards will be there. What I mean by long & hard is in the sense of being like an owner-driver. These jobs won't be high basic salaries and won't come with the protection you are used to, but will have to conform to HR law in this country.

The only way you won't be able to leave RM is if too many people in your depot put their hand up, your role is critical to the company (i.e. unique skills) or if you are economically too expensive to be given VR

"Us" ? "We" ? Who does he mean? I'll bet that parasite hasn't got his useless, overpaid arse out of bed before I've got halfway around my walk on any Saturday.

I told my oppo's this morning about the possibility of the 5 day service & saturday off
All said that would make this the perfect job, some even said they would skip over the picket line if that was a possibility, i must admit that would seal a deal for me, Monday to Friday PERFECT
Would it solve RMs cash flow problems? After all they saved thousands if not millions by stopping good Friday deliveries
Now my hopes have been dashed all because Crozier :cfo wants to work on Sat (& i'm sure he does!!!!!!!!) and not spend time with his family
