that is not a lot of money!!!!!! i thought it wud have been much more than that!!!no point in any of us building hopes on that then with what u say.... i am only there 6 .5 years part time 31.5 hours for 3 years and full-time for the rest, so i wud prob only get half of that amount!!! thats hectic that is.. will hang in a while longer then.. stay strong..frankie wrote:I asked my manager how much I would receive if I opted to a buy-down to 28 hrs. He worked it out there and then and it came to just over £2,200 and that was for 13yrs service +my age. I would not retain my driving duty and would have to take whatever duty was going, which could end up being a reserve. So it's on hold at present.

Frankie mate, your manager is the wrong person to be working out how much a buy down would earn you. The P & O people in sheffield have the criteria to work that out. £2200 for 13 years dont sound right. I've got 2 people who had buy downs on 18 years service. they got in the region of £10000. Granted they've only got 3 or 4 years left in the business. Also you've got rights. Your manager can't tell you that you will lose your duty. Your seniority should take care of that as part timers have the same rights as full timers

I must admit I did think at the time it sounded a bit on the skimpy side, He actually showed me the figures on the computer and printed them off, which now makes me wonder what the hell is going on, must look into this further. Unfortunately manager on leave this week, but will catch up with him. Thanks for info Cruisey, appreciate it, definately have to keep one step ahead managers!

Don't forget though that RM is only interested in buy downs because they make a saving on the office hours. A buy down isn't just about you as an individual it's about losing another full time job from the business.
Fighting RM making back door savings by these kind of methods is a big part of what we are striking for.
Financially your pension will also take a hit.

I do know that there is a meeting tomorrow called by Royal Mail where they want Billy Hayes to attend and Crozier will also make an appearance. I am getting the impression they are shitting it. They honestly thought we would never get a yes vote and the worst case it would be by a very small majority. They are shitting a brick and want a resolution but cannot be seen to back down.
What pisses me off is at the end of every dispute there is always an agreement why can't they get the f***ing agreement first before already underpaid workers lose money they cannot afford to lose.

it's the unfortunate outcome stubaby. if we didn't have a strike now and again then RM would flatten us everytime. If your info is right, it does show that RM are in fact listening to the people, but are ashamed to admit it's the union members they are listening to. It's called saving face. The first days action will still go ahead. This will show RM we mean business and won't be bullied in to changing our working practice. Then maybe, just maybe they will negotiate a way to move the business forward and give us all a decent rise.

The buy down is calculated out as the money you would recive for redundancy divided by the number of hours you lose over the number of hours you do just now.
So an easy calculation is if you are offered £40,000 redundancy and are buying down to 30 hours then it is £40,000 divided by a 1/4 as it would be 10 over 40. Hope this is clear...let me know.

Yes my friend,i heard today that both side are to meet again,i thought it was later on today, but i maybe wrong. As i said in my earlier post ego's and saving face is a possible reason agreements are being thrashed out.Postcom is a huge thorn in our side at the moment,ok keep postcom but RM should be battling with them to make it fairer for RM to compete, stubaby wrote:I do know that there is a meeting tomorrow called by Royal Mail where they want Billy Hayes to attend and Crozier will also make an appearance. Problem with that article is its on hellmail. Anyone who has been a member should know its very much in favour of Royal Mail and although it has good debate it never shows us any preference.disheartened wrote:Yes my friend,i heard today that both side are to meet again,i thought it was later on today, but i maybe wrong. I was told that Crozier wrote to Dave Ward wanting this meeting and insisting that Billy Hayes was present its maybe to fan Croziers ego.
Now if they are really serious about ending this dispute they should stop all executive action pull back and ask the CWU to only make a token gesture to validate the strike and not an all out. That will then give them time to talk and try to unlock this dispute.
I am a rep i have been for 15 years i have also been ADR and i have been involved in many disputes. This one to me out of all the others Way Forward London Weighting Team Working and all the rest is one we just cannot afford to lose. We have to be strong and it may be painful but what are the alternatives? We also have to send a clear message to the bastards in Old street if you want to move forward modernise and make this a succssful company then you cannot do that without us and until you understand that f**k off.

As above, this for once gets right to the point. If Royal Mail rival`s are given the go ahead to cherry pick, then we can only continue to make a `loss`.
The Union have got it right, it now need`s the `Men in Pink` to start standing up for the Company they WORK FOR, AS WELL AS US!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I to cant see either side wavering.........but the old synic in me thinks bottoms may have been kicked from a certain gent who is about to move in to No 10,the railways are threatening to make life uncomfortable for him as well with a ballot for IA.
For some strange reason i think the fact that postcom have released an article that they are considering altering our USO to a five day delivery may end up as part of any agreement package that the union and rm thrash out.Crozier,Lieghton and dare i say it Dave Ward, must of known about this for a while.Postcom did'nt just pop in to work this morning and say"I've got a good idea, lets make the posties deliver 5 days a week instead of 6 days",so has this been left in the bottom of the bag for a last minute ingreedient for a deal.
Once again i do believe in my union.....thats not to say i trust them entirely,i trust Royal Mail even less
