Royal Mail workers speak on USO pilots: “They have already started to gut the mail service”

Already failing walks on purpose, telling us that the plan will be to have 2 posties doing 4 walks alternately, with a driver doing the oversized on the 4 walks. It`s noticeable that mail is being held up at the MC. Some people are getting no post for days, then loads on one day. Obviously being softened up for what`s to come.
People are unhappy, they want their post, especially if they are waiting for important letters.
It`s embarrassingly s**t, isn`t it?

That's the DTS system.

This is how the DTS works:

Each day once all outward and DSA has been run by 22:00 the software engine creates a list of every DP in the country that has got a 1C item. It then from that list creates the lists for the individual batches, those lists for the batches get sent off to the CSS machines.

When we run a batch on the first pass each 2C item is checked against the list of DPs due a 1C item. If there is a 1C item for the same DP as the 2C item then that 2C item is released and sequenced. If there's no 1C item for the same DP then that 2C item gets held over to the next day, when it goes through the same process. On the fifth day the 2C item gets automatically released (I believe that any other 2C items for that same DP also get automatically released).

I fully understand why they offered the lower priced product that is controlled by dts but surely it's also inefficient to 'sort' and handle loads of items potentially 5 times before they get released for delivery ?

Don't think it's inefficient, simply anything that comes out of stackers 18 & 19 goes into a tray and gets put on the relevant york to be run again the next day. Sometimes it can result in a batch having 28+ trays, you can get away with a couple of batches being like that but nay more than that and you're going to run out of time. On the flip side if you get a lot of mail going to DTS it makes the 2nd and 3rd passes go a lot quicker.

Only a matter of time before it knows if there's a parcel. We're now scanning packets to yorks so they can tell what packets should be at the DO for each walk.

Well done space, your clearly in the know especially concerning the CSS process. We are already doing something similar in our delivery unit where there's very little letters and less volunteers to work Saturdays.

The rolling day of usually means we are short staffed on Saturdays as peeps won't work there day of if it's a Saturday. Hence the DPRs are used for premium.

The USO clearly isn't working anymore, it's time to move forward. And the staff don't want overtime on Saturday if it's their day off. Anyone disagrees are sadly militant, delusional, or don't work for the RM.

The USO pilots are well supported by the staff. Allot of staff will have more Saturdays off.
