A Message from Dave Ward

Dear Colleague

Negotiations on Royal Mail Letters Pay and the Future of the Company

Further to yesterday's meeting we have received this morning Royal
Mail's proposal covering pay and flexibility. Please find attached a
copy of the proposal.

It is clear that their first offer on basic pay of 2.5% flowing through
to everything - although well below our aspirations - has come about as
a result of the pressure applied by the Union. The offer remains
conditional on unacceptable strings.

No part of the proposal has been agreed by the Union.

However, given Royal Mail claim this is their full and final offer it is
right for the Postal Executive to give the proposal due consideration
when they meet on Wednesday 9th May.

We are aware Royal Mail have chosen to brief staff this morning and in
some locations have asked people to vote on the pay element. This is
extremely disappointing and yet again demonstrates that the company is
panicking. We are convinced this will backfire and in reality such
behaviour only serves to make a resolution more difficult.

By contrast, the Union will continue to approach these negotiations in a
professional and business like manner.

We still want to reach a negotiated settlement - but we must continue to
prepare for the national industrial action ballot in accordance with the
published timetable below.

Serve Notice on Tuesday 15th May
Despatch Ballot papers on Tuesday 22nd May
Result declared Thursday 7th June

It is essential that we continue with our preparations for the ballot.

Further information will be sent out in due course.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
