Paying back maternity?

Post by Maybel_Lucy »

Hia,

I’m 1/3rd through my maternity. Whilst on maternity I moved about 60 min drive from my DO. I’m trying to transfer but where I want to transfer has no space at the moment. I love my old D.O so don’t really want to change but can’t justify a hour drive for R.M wage. I’d actually like to go back to work early but it’s proving difficult to work it all out with childcare as I’d have to leave home so early.

ANYWAY - I’ve looked in contracts (found nothing stating), emailed HR (no reply) and asked any manager I can (non have any idea) if I leave do I have to pay any maternity pay back?

Sorry if this isn’t the right place to post this I’m out of ideas.
Cheers then!

If you go on the people app and select the rmg people policy tile there's a section on time off work which includes maternity leave, I've had a quick look through but I can't actually see the answer, it's a long time ago now but someone at our office had her full maternity and returned for a week then decided it wouldn't work out and left, she didn't have to pay anything back.

Think of it another way, if you leave now you won't get the pay, if you leave when the pay ends and do end up paying it back which I reckon is unlikely then you're in the same position anyway.

Thank you for the reply, the robin/people app is why HR told me but as you said I couldn’t actually find that specific answer, haha. Yeah I see your point I’d just like to know so I know if I can budget for a holiday or not

Of course, if that is your name as your username, you’ve told any browsing manager what your plans are.

It’s not actually my name it’s a fake name… I mean I do actually want to go back to work I just want to know 100% what my options are so that I don’t get any unexpected surprises either way - it’s just proving so difficult to get a solid answer from anyone.
Anyway I can’t delete it now! Thanks anyway :nervous

How maternity pay works is that once you go on maternity pay, RM has said you need to work for 3 months or pay back a percentage of your maternity pay. It has been like this for a long time - if you don’t want to return and you have holidays, you can use them, so you don’t have to pay anything back.

It’s the same as when you take IHR, they deduct sick pay that they might have paid you from your final amount

I thought that was only something they wanted to implement.

They do it now. It’s either from your final year or your last two years of employment.

Jeez, by the nature of it you'll probably have been on long term sick so it's more than likely you'll leave with nothing, bastards.
