Good friend of mine has just started at Royal Mail and he asked me how to order uniform through the people app.
App is up and running but the uniform ordering is only showing PPE allocation.
That being High Viz and shoe spikes being a total of three items.
How long does he have to be in the job before he can order shoes, trousers etc?

Re: New Starter Uniform Allocation Question
I think it’s 3 months, but that may have increased.
Some one will confirm I’m sure.

Re: New Starter Uniform Allocation Question
They should be able to order all the normal allocation. The stormproof coat is a day one issue which is given at the DO induction.redlen wrote: ↑16 Jun 2025, 22:04Good friend of mine has just started at Royal Mail and he asked me how to order uniform through the people app.

Re: New Starter Uniform Allocation Question
Usually anyone dumping their stuff in the leavers' york is curteous enough to wash it first. Still, the outerwear is usually boggin' - almost as if red is a great colour for revealing dirt and grime.HarrySutton111 wrote: ↑17 Jun 2025, 10:18Is their not a skip in office with old gear in? Re: New Starter Uniform Allocation Question
I know what you mean there, the red jackets are especially difficult to get clean, the cuffs seem to really attract dirt, mine doesn't look much better straight after washing although it certainly smells a bit nicer than one or two of my colleaguesMr Rush wrote: ↑17 Jun 2025, 18:02Usually anyone dumping their stuff in the leavers' york is curteous enough to wash it first. Re: New Starter Uniform Allocation Question
I had a family member start a couple of months back
As you say initial order is Hi-Vis & spikes.
After 4 weeks they could order everything except for some reason the red jacket & Gilet. For some reason they could only order 3 Polo shirts as well. That was done through the app with allocations listed.

Re: New Starter Uniform Allocation Question
I started this week, on the app I only have the PPE available, despite having been told by the onboarding team to order my uniform on week 1 for the new starter allocation which is day 1 issue. No option to do that on the app, an email to uniform@RM and they say oh its changed. Pity they don't bother to tell you that when you are trying to order uniform. Asked a manager and he said oh its 4 weeks (ish) now. After 2 days I cant even be given a Hi VIs so they allow me to walk round the yard with nothing despite asking for the last 2 days !!!! I guess in 6 weeks if im still there and im caught not wearing a Hi Vis it will be a bollocking. So now I'm walking round in my own clothes and shoes, if I get wet then I have no spare shoes to wear, I don't have a suitable waterproof coat to wear for work. I've never worked at such a poorly run organisation where you aren't given basic uniform to wear. Currently walking round the streets dressed as a "chav" with no ID badge, so get a lot of suspicious look walking down peoples driveways in a quiet rural location. Royal Mail need to sort themselves out as the whole induction and instruction given to new starters is poor and isn't what's reflected at the DO, I'm guessing they just make it up to suit their needs.

Re: New Starter Uniform Allocation Question
RM as an organisation and (most) managers don't give a monkeys about training. However at least one of them should be able to source you a high-vis jacket, a waterproof jacket and you need a posting peg (a piece of slim red plastic) to help you push mail through a letterbox when there's a mad dog behind it.mrhodes2705 wrote: ↑06 Aug 2025, 20:32I started this week, on the app I only have the PPE available, despite having been told by the onboarding team to order my uniform on week 1 for the new starter allocation which is day 1 issue.
