Contract uplifts

Post by Moocher2 »

Hi, what is the criteria for uplifting hours on a contract? I've been told that seniority doesn't apply, and capability is the criteria that managers use? If that's the case, how do they assess that ? Thanks

It's always been seniority as that's the criteria used when applying for a duty, for example say a full time duty became available for anyone to apply for it should be the most senior person that got it so if part time they'd be the person that got the increase.

In the past I think if a "Phg" type of job was available it used to be different but imho that shouldn't apply these days as surely it's simply a case of suitable training it's hardly a position that requires a 3 year apprenticeship.

Don't think they bother with seniority anymore, me and 3 others in my section are still on 30 hours and have seniority over someone who transferred in, they were uplifted to 35 hours straight away

What did your manager/rep say when you complained it was wrong and the duty should have been advertised for anyone to apply

Don't have a rep anymore, manager just said they don't need to advertise for reserves. The new lass on 35 hours is nice so no one wants to say anything that might get her knocked back down.
We're just annoyed at the manager, she's come from the managers old office so it might have been a favour to someone there.

I see, looks like nothing will come of it then, I think your manager is wrong though as someone might have come off a duty to be a reserve for the higher pay, yeah I know probably unlikely but you never know, if it's a well run pretty small office then maybe more likely than a big one where reserves are treat terribly with the std Tuesday/bank hols day off, swapped off duties when you've half prepped them etc
