Picked a Walk But Nothing is Happening...

So, a few months ago I picked a walk that was on the board and given that I have the most seniority, etc, it obviously should be mine. This walk is a van-share, and it’s been implied (but not explicitly said) that I have to drive to get the walk. My potential partner on this van-share however is a driver, so this sounds like rubbish to me - I thought only one person could drive the van anyway once it was signed for? I’m just wondering where I stand on this before I try to take the argument further as I’m pretty sure 3 months is ridiculous to be in limbo.

Are you saying you don't want to drive ? Who drives now, have you asked the "potential partner" if they don't mind driving or have they got used to not having to, have you asked why you've not started on the duty ? Is it because you applied for it but then said you don't want to be the driver ?

The other person is the driver, I don’t drive and wouldn’t have picked a walk that requires driving. Like I say it’s been suggested that both duty holders have to drive which doesn’t sound right to me.

There should be a designated driver and a passenger. Depends which duty you are signing for

If you signed for the walk side and you have and old contract as appose to the new inferior ones you should be on the walk side you need to ask the union as they will give you the most up to date answer as no one on the shop floor seems to know what the absolute answer to things are anymore its in such a mess.

After the van check, I give the PDA to whoever my partner is for that day & let them type their own name into the PDA, whether they can drive or not.

How are they checking the brake lights in the summer then? Does your DO have convenient mirrors for checks, cos none I've seen do, and I feel like laying a brick on the brake pedal might violate a few other rules.

At ours one of the two walks in a van share duty will be designated a driving duty and one will be designated a non driving duty. Drivers can apply for driving or non driving duties but non drivers can only apply for non driving duties.

Perhaps it's to cover situations when the driving partner goes on holiday/sick/day off that the other bod needs to be a driver too?

The guidance for repicks when park & loop was introduced stated that all reserves would need to be drivers.
Obviously that will screw up seniority and seems to have been largely ignored.

If there is an accident involving the vehicle who is responsible? What happens if both drivers blame each other? Im not a driver so genuinely dont know the answer to that.
