When I left via IHR at the end of May they didn't need to see any reports from my GP / Consultants.

I am one of those people who should get IHR but Royal Mail are not offering it to me, I have put in an informal letter to my line manager who ignored it, then I put in a formal letter to he’s senior manager who has ignored it, so I am now taking it to a hearing through grievance and see if they can sort it.

@Terrance i was in the same predicament as you line manager's are just trumped up postie's waste of time, i went to the area manager through HR because the line manager refused to contact him on my behalf, as for the union forget it i come out of it because i have done better myself God knows what happened to the union used to know years ago.

On to the grievance you put in i to put a grievance in ( 7 months 2 weeks ago) i have kept every single template letter they have sent me (we will endeavour to get in contact with you in 14 days) and am still waiting HR said there's a massive backlog of grievances.

Next on to OH referrals every one i had the manager put down the same old questions, after speaking to the area manager I asked him to specifically ask for LTBIH and my next referral is for that purpose nothing else, i hope this helps in some way or another.

I had a LTBIH assessment on 5th december 4 weeks after a OH assessment that deemed me unfit for work including light duties.

I was a postman for over 17 years and been off with my Degenerative disc in L5/S1/Sciatica/Nerve Inpingement that has been accelerated by the job. I was off for 10 months with it.
I'm still awaiting spinal surgery

the below was from a previous post i did and the main IHR topic discussion that should help you

The IHR from Health Partners asked me whether i could estimate how long i walk for as my job, i said 23,000 steps a day, he then asked me how am i walking now and i said that i have to stop between every 5 to 10 minutes due to the pain and i walk with a limp.
He then asked whether how i do with carrying weighted items to which i struggle.
He then asked me about when i pick up things off the floor, i said i struggle to get back up and sometimes require help to get back up.
He also asked me about sitting down, to which i have to get up every 20 minutes to move around otherwise the pain gets worse, i also have to sit on a gaming chair, cant sit on my own couch or a office chair.

He then mentioned questions such as,
would he recommend a gradual return to work or light duties, he said no
is there any other ways of working for Royal Mail in any other aspect, he said no.
does the sickness fall under the disability act- yes medically but unsure upon how we would currently provide it due to my on-going symptoms such as ability to deliver half a walk -he said no.

would you recommend IHR he said yes for the foreseeable future due to my waiting times for spinal surgery assessment, the follow up treatment or surgery that stands at 28 weeks waiting time, the previous treatment i have done and failed and long timeline for treatment over 9 months wouldn't be achievable (9 months equals foreseeable Future in RM's eye)

So i'm happy Finally someone has seen it my way that i've known for many months that i'm never going to be able to be a postie ever again.

Just gotta wait for the confirmation of it, then see the next steps.
I already had access to my medical records that showed up MRI scan confirmation of my injury, i uploaded the 2 pages that state it, I also uploaded a screenshot of the current waiting times for treatment - which you can check yourself using https://www.myplannedcare.nhs.uk/ and finding your NHS Trust then which department it falls under.
I also put up a statement too about how it effects my everyday life.

You can upload documents on the online portal for the Health Partners website , you should recieve a link if you provide a email address , i have the link for you if you haven't registered https://my.gateway.uk.com/#/signup

It took from the 5th December to 13th December to be officially signed off with ill health retirement and got it paid on week payday 15th December.

Many people are reporting different timescales and i think it comes down to the individual manager's attitude

the best of luck to you

I have just had another OH assessment told her I’m in pain after a a period of walking, bending down, over sitting and standing for periods due to my conditions and she said I will recommend you go back on light duties ,I said there are no light duties at Royal Mail, I can’t do indoor work and sitting and standing makes my back seize up and the pain gets more severe. They have tried all the scoping and there are no adjustments that can be made .Did anyone else get recommended for light duties and if so what did they try and get you to do?
