Know some people who have been referred after a few weeks suppose it all depends on what kind of illness you are off with.the process when they contact you is to ask how you are coping an get an idea of your illness an basically is there any way they can help get you back to work.again depending on your health they can offer a range of services.

I got referred after 5 weeks.

The OH people are really nice, and are very sympathetic. Your manager needs your consent to refer you, and must inform you why. Mine didn't, and the OH lady refused to carry on with the call without these things being in place.

Yes I had exactly the same experience with my manager too, the reason he told me was different to what he had told OH, suffice to say on the referral call OH refused to go ahead to protect me. The irony of it is that RM then put me on SSP stating that I had refused to go ahead with the call, all that was required by the management was to be honest with no ambiguity or hidden agenda, just shows you the complete disregard that management have for abiding by the rules…..

I'm glad I came here for a read.

I'm currently off work post surgery recovery.

Had my operation on 18th November, hospital issued 2 weeks fit note, and mentioned to see GP if it needs extending.

I went to GP on Monday this week, who examined me, and extended my fit note for a few more weeks, to allow to me fully recover.

Passed my fit note extension to manager, and my manager has referred to me to OH, which I found a little odd, given I have only been off work (recovering from surgery) for 17 days.

Being an ex manager in a different job, I never referred any staff members to OH after such a short space of time.

I will discuss with OH the reason for the call, as I know I am off recovering from surgery, and I do aim to be back to work ASAP.
