advice please on injury at work & DOM making it hard work.

Post by Jlee9 »

Hi, please help, not been in this situation before, so I'll dive right in

While on a round I ended up falling and causing soft tissue damage to my ankle, (Friday) informed my DOM what I did and that I was getting checked out at urgent. I was told to self cert with a note at the end of until I felt better, while using a brace when walking. I told my DOM this when I was called in on the Saturday to fill in the accident report out. He ended up sweet talking me on to light duties in the office with a phased return, two weeks passed and I started to feel a little better, he forced me on a full 12mile walk(he switched my round on the day) with a collection at the end of it (he 'thought' I'd be fully healed in a week or two and I was walking fine in the office), it ended up reversing some of my healing, he thought this was 'suspicious', demanded photographic evidence and was generally nasty about it all after I told I have to self cert and fully rest with a GP review at the end of the week. He rang back later on in the week totally different attitude about it all, went over the rehab plan and told me in inform my GP of this and if they didn't agree (instead of giving me a note) he would need their name and address so HR can contact them, Now a week in to my note I have a meeting with him.

is this normal? if it isn't what's the normal process.

PS my union rep is hit and miss with things like this, I get the impression they are too buddy buddy, the rep is for the DOM not me (should I ask him to attend this meeting?).

Thank you in advance.

Hello jlee, I suggest you re-post this in the "Blue Shirts" forum.

I believe you will have more chance of a response as this forum is usually more active with posties on walks who have experience & hopefully you might get some advice.

From years of experience managers never take accidents at work seriously, all they ever want is you back to work asap.See your GP play on it and get a sick note for as long as possible and refuse light duties until your signed off ready to go back.

A lot of DOMs are wasted in RM, they should be frontline NHS doctors as they seem to know so much about how long injuries take to heal and what your rehab plan should be.
