Unauthorised and Illegal Use of Private Cars on Delivery

We've been informed by our office manager this week that there is no need anymore to have a driving assessment or driver changeover for employees to drive RM vehicles.
Has anybody else heard this?

Also today our manager told a colleague that if they wanted to go back out to do some loops on overtime, but felt uncomfortable using a van, then they could use their own car.
Has anybody else heard this?

Apparently managers are allowed to use their own private cars if they go out and do some loops or parcels because RM have bought courier insurance for them.
Is this true?

1. Sort of correct due to the high amount of recent new starters but there's certain conditions,it's for a limited timescale, only driving small vans and an age restriction, have a look at this.

2. No you can't use your own car, end of.

RM don't buy insurance from anywhere, they self-insure. Even if RM are insuring the vehicle for such use, an individual would still have to inform their own insurance company that their job involves the use of their own car.

Just to say that the manager was telling existing long term employees they no longer required the driver changeover.
Don't think any conditions or timescales was mentioned either.

I'd imagine the same would also apply to long term employees that haven't already driven for royal mail as the issue is the volume of people requiring the training.
