Why??

You use your PDA for that
Use the PDA for what? Sorry I think I've missed something in the thread.
The PDA isn't going to come out to me if I breakdown or if a tyre goes.In the week it's absolutely fine as we have support for the majority of the day if something does go wrong. On Sundays for a lot of the routes the PDA has no signal and I end up using my phone for directions.Vans shouldn't be left with parcels in them overnight- this sounds like an accepted way to function but it's clearly wrong and not what customers would accept either..These are the issues. Sundays are absolutely ridiculous for those that work them and noone seems to care.

The CWU said we were holding back progress, preventing profits because we won't work Sundays. Yet more lies from the CWU.

When i first started to work Sundays at a different Do (September ish 2024), my manager wrote on the info board start times and the contact details (phone numbers) of 2 managers for that depot.

The second time i worked a Sunday at that delivery office (roughly 6 weeks later, we had more staff then), none of the original managers were working there. No one had updated any of us on the contact details.

3 separate times this year alone different work colleagues have asked for contact details in our WhatsApp group on a Sunday. The same chat group that my manager is in. Luckily myself and a couple of others have been able to respond, however. there was /is no guarantees that the numbers we post are for the ones actually on duty that day.

The lack of professionalism / basic comms is hard to swallow for me. For the size of the company and different shift times running into evenings i think there should be like a central control room number that can be contactable by employees in case of emergency’s.

I had no idea this could be done or this was expected of Sunday staff! When I've needed the RAC for my personal use the call out has been between 6-9 hours as it's so rural. It's not likely to be any different for RM use. I just don't think it's good enough and it still leaves the issue of vans with parcels being left overnight. There's a whole host of issues not just calling RAC....and btw the PDA doesn't work in a lot of areas too. It's all pretty shambolic! If I was stuck in a field somewhere or in a ditch I would expect to be able to be able to get hold of my manager and for them to make sure I get home safe.
I've not been shown how to report accidents....noone went through fire safety... induction is non existent.

Anything goes wrong of course it is you in the s**t not the manager (at least at first never know down the line depending)

Nothing surprises me any more with RM
How can it be the postie's fault if the office is locked? If the manager denied that he knew it was occurring he'd have trouble convincing an Employment Tribunal if it had been happening every Sunday for months, even years, previously?

Our Sunday DPR staff turn up, take the PDA & van to different office to collect their parcels, on return they are told to reverse the van against the wall & post the PDA & keys & scan a barcode above the office letterbox, I assume last one out locks the gate? The locker staff removed any undelivered parcels Monday morning.

This happens every night at our office.
We don’t do Sundays.
Customers regularly come into callers in the morning and their parcel is still locked in a van in the car park.

This is RM remember - the postie is guilty until proven more guilty while the manager skates and moved somewhere else.

Plus not talking about ET talking about RM culture in how posties are treated.
