Hello all,
I've just been recommended for IHR subject to myself agreeing to it.

I've been told that I have to agree to IHR before I find out how much payment I will receive, and that there is no going back whether I like the payment figure amount or not.

I don't think this is correct.

Any opinions would be most welcome.

Thank you.

There's only You that agrees to it when the opportunity turns up,normally IHR is triggered by HR themselves after a set length of time off sick or you request it in writing.

No COM or line manager knows the amount until you have been offered it and that its only when you jumped through the hoops of IHR Medical Assessment. No union rep cannot get involved, this is purely because it cant be seen as you was pushed into the decision by either a union rep or RM manager.

Is there a time limit before they offer IHR? Or can they just sack you if you've been off too long? I've been off for nearly a year and am waiting for an operation that could still be months away.

I’ve been a postman for 5 years now and was off last year for 7 months due to mental health.
I’ve since been off again a number of times after this being mentally and physically unwell which has triggered a dismissal stage 3.

I come under the disability act, but there’s nothing for me to do within the office as of light duties to meet my needs.
I won’t be returning, and my boss is aware of this.
I’ve had numerous OH appointments for adjustments but there’s nothing there for me to do.
My boss has told me to resign, but that’s not what I want to do as I don’t mind the job. I’ve told him that I would like to be dismissed and in writing that I’m not fit to work mentally and physically.
I was wondering if anyone knows if I would be eligible for any payout. I don’t think I am, but I wanted to check with anyone on here who may know.
I don’t think I would be fit the criteria to be medically retired, because I don’t pay into any pensions.
Would anyone know if there’s anything I could possibly claim in the process due to my circumstances?

TIA

ask for it in writing to your line manager to put in a request for ill health retirement, there is no time limit- HR sometimes trigger it after 10 to 12 months but not all the time- pop in a request if its something you'd like to explore :)

you can try to request ill health retirement by putting a request in writing.

all i can do is advise you to try it as there's the only option to resign
